Juicer Reviews

I’ve checked out some juicers for you so you in particular don’t have to, and I’ve found a few that I think would be suitable for some of your specific needs. In these reviews, I’ve detailed what I like best and least about these juicers, and why I think they are the best in their category and why they would suit your specific needs.

How to Choose the Best Juicer

I think there is no best juicer for everyone, since everyone has different needs for a juicer. Some people like to drink only citrus fruit juice, some like to juice vegetables, and some like it all-in-one!

It pays to think about what you would like your juicer to do before you buy one, so here I’ve put in information that might be useful for you to choose your best juicer. I took the info from my own experience while shopping for a juicer with my girlfriend. The easiest way to pick the best juicer is to keep these in mind:

  • Juicer Types
  • Juicer Price
  • Juicer Features

Types of Juicer

There are actually quite a few types of juicers out there, so you have to know which kind you need to buy. When we were shopping for our Breville, we were so overcome by the fact that there were so many types of juicers that my girlfriend and I had to ask the sales person to repeat everything twice or thrice to ensure we got it all. Here’s a quick guide to help you get started!

Citrus Juicers

Citrus Juicer

Citrus Juicer

These are the most basic juicers. Citrus juicers are also really cheap, especially the manual ones that require you to use good ol’ arm power to get your juice done. All you have to do is to ream the citrus fruit against the cone to squeeze out the juice. However, this type of juicer only works with citrus fruit like limes, lemons, oranges and grapefruit.

Centrifugal Juicers

Centrifugal Juicer

Centrifugal Juicer

Centrifugal juicers are the most common and affordable type of juicer. They work by using blades to cut up fruit and vegetable into tiny pieces before spinning the bits against a fine mesh to strain juice out using…you guessed it, centrifugal force! They don’t work very well with leafy vegetables however because centrifugal force is just not enough to squeeze out what little moisture there is in leaves.

Single Gear Masticating Juicers

Single Gear Masticating Juicer

Single Gear Masticating Juicer

This kind of juicers are slightly more expensive but well worth it I think because their motors operate at really low speeds, which helps the fruit and veggies retain as many nutrients as possible during the juicing process. They crush the fruit and veggies into pulp before squeezing it for juice, so you can also make mushy foods like nut butters, sorbet, pasta and baby food with this kind of juicers.

I recommend: Omega 8003/8005 Juicer (Review)

Twin Gear Triturating Juicers

Twin Gear Triturating Juicer

These are also quite expensive, because like single gear masticating juicers, they operate at very low speeds, producing less foam and retain more nutrients in the juice after the juicing. They have interlocking twin gears, which work in tandem to press out the juice without heating it to ensure that fewer enzymes and nutrients are killed in the process.

I recommend: Green Power Juicer – Model KPE 1304 (review to come soon)

Wheatgrass Juicers

Wheatgrass juicers can be electrical or manual. Basically they are leaf juicers, and as such usually not used to juice anything other than herbs or leafy vegetables like wheatgrass.

Price of Juicers

Juicers can range from $10 to $500. It really depends on whether it is electrical or manual, and which type of juicer it is. How much are you willing to pay for a decent juicer that fits your needs? We got our Breville for a little less than $300, and it certainly gave us more than its worth!

Juicer Features

I know it’s terribly difficult to decide among almost similar models so I’ll drop a few hints here for you. Check out these features of juicers and see which feature you definitely must have!

Large chute
Saves preparation time because you don’t have to cut up the fruits into smaller pieces.

Dishwasher safe
Some juicers have removable parts that are dishwasher safe so that you can clean them easily.

Clear juice container
Usually centrifugal juicers have a clear juice container with volume markings so that you can measure how much juice you make.

Pulp ejection
Some juicers eject the pulp into a separate container for easier cleaning. You only have to empty that container.

Safety lock lid
The juicer won’t start unless you click the lid on securely. Saves you trouble cleaning up careless messes.

Speeds
Some juicers come with two speeds. If you like to juice both soft and hard fruits, this is a great feature. Slow for the soft fruits and fast for hard fruits.

Metal or plastic?
Some juicers have a metal body but some have a plastic body. Few of them come in both versions.

Warranty period
Check for your juicer’s warranty!
